Cybele is dedicated to making evidence-based medication safety information accessible to every healthcare provider working with pregnant and breastfeeding patients.
Cybele was created to address a critical gap in healthcare: the need for fast, reliable, evidence-based information on medication safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Healthcare providers often face time pressure and uncertainty when prescribing to these vulnerable patient groups.
Our platform brings together the best available clinical evidence, treatment guidelines, and safety assessments in one accessible location — enabling confident, safe prescribing decisions.
Cybele grew out of research at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), driven by the recognition that existing resources were fragmented, inconsistent, or difficult to use in a busy clinical setting.
Named after the ancient goddess associated with fertility and nature, Cybele embodies our commitment to supporting the health of mothers and their children through science-driven guidance.
Every recommendation is grounded in peer-reviewed scientific evidence and recognized clinical guidelines.
We maintain complete transparency about our sources and update our content regularly to reflect the latest evidence.
Cybele is designed for healthcare professionals across all settings — fast, clear, and usable at the point of care.
Cybele is the name behind the initiative — a concept rooted in care, protection, and the ancient archetype of the nurturing mother. The name echoes Cybele, the goddess of fertility and nature, reflecting our commitment to the wellbeing of mothers and their children.
The drop in our logo embodies a dual symbolism: both a drop of breast milk and a drop of medication — representing the delicate balance at the heart of what we do. Every recommendation balances treatment needs with infant protection.
Cybele was created to support healthcare providers in making informed treatment decisions during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Through evidence-based information organized and updated regularly, we contribute to safer, more effective treatment of pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Cybele was founded at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) by a team of clinical pharmacologists, pharmacists, and healthcare educators frustrated by the fragmentation of available information. Despite the volume of published research, no single accessible, up-to-date, multilingual resource existed to support day-to-day clinical decisions.
We built what we needed. And then we made it freely available — because we believe that access to good information should not be a privilege.
Whether you are a healthcare provider, researcher, sponsor, or concerned parent — there is a place for you in the Cybele community.
